Serving Christ, Serving Boston

Our beautiful brick historic 1912 building is located in the heart of Boston, Georgia on the corner of Main Street and Adam Street across from the Boston Carnegie Library. We are just just a 15-minute drive from Thomasville, Georgia or Quitman, Georgia and a 35-minute drive from Valdosta, Georgia.

In Sunday School, we divide into four age groups--preschool, elementary, teens, and adults--to learn from our Answers in Genesis curriculum. We learn to apply God's Word in our every day lives by taking a chronological journey through the Bible with a focus on defending your faith (apologetics).

In our Sunday Morning Service, we enjoy singing hymns and choruses together. Hymnals are provided on the back of the pew in front of you. Our choir enjoys presenting special music most weeks with an occasional soloist. Our worship services are built around what we value most--explanation of Scripture (sometimes called expository or exegetical preaching). We believe that understanding and knowing the Bible is the most important part of a Christian's spiritual well-being.

During the school year, we have a weekly Wednesday fellowship meal followed by kids and youth activities and an adult prayer and Bible lesson.

Our Pastor

Picture
Pastor Tim Phillips, M.Div., has been the pastor of Boston Baptist Church since 1991, the longest serving pastor in the church’s history. Pastor Tim was influenced at a young age by his father, who was also a pastor, and his mother, who had him memorize many Scriptures. Pastor Tim studied at Columbia Bible College where he met his wife, Deanne. He was greatly impacted by Dr. Harold Burchett, his seminary professor whom he often refers to as “the wisest man in the world.” Pastor Tim’s first Sunday as pastor was June 16, 1991. From the very beginning of his ministry, his heart and his passion have been to teach what the Bible says and how to study it. Over the years, he has faithfully preached sermons, visited many in the hospital and nursing homes, officiated weddings and funerals, and truly been a servant and shepherd to the people of this church. Pastor Tim loves watching college football and taking road trips, but most of all, he has loved guiding his family and teaching his church family. Pastor Tim and his wife have four children—Bethany, Paul, Micah, and Hannah—and seven grandchildren.

Our History

Our church was founded in October 1872 with thirty-four founding members. J.M Rushin was the first pastor. Our church was first called Macedonia Baptist Church but the name was changed to Boston Baptist Church in 1876. Our first church building was located at the corner of Main Street and Jackson Street but was destroyed by a storm and rebuilt in 1873. In 1909, the church decided they wanted a church building more centrally located in Boston and in 1913, our current building was completed. In 1944, our church joined the Thomas County Baptist Association that we are a part of today.

Our fellowship hall building was completed in 2002. Carpenters for Christ volunteers came from South Carolina and Georgia to help build the fellowship hall. Kids and youth wrote Bible verses on the foundation before the floors were laid. At the homecoming service on October 27, 2002, the new fellowship hall was dedicated to the Lord.
